Carol and The Danish Girl Review

Hot

My Dream Man. (Matthias Schoenaerts)

I’m no movie critic, but I sure as hell watch a lot of movies and this is my blog so…:

I was really looking forward to seeing the movie Carol because Cate Blanchett is amazing (gorgeous and ahhh her voice!) but I was bored out of my mind.  After watching, I didn’t believe there was a bisexual or gay bone in either of the characters bodies.  There wasn’t an ounce of chemistry between Cate and Mara, it was awkward to watch and unconvincing.  I’m straight and I was insulted, I can’t imagine how a lesbian would feel about that part of the plot development.  Cate Blanchett carries the whole movie, but the love scenes between the characters were so bland?  After watching great shows like “The L Word” my standards include, believability.   We were supposed to think they fell in love, but there wasn’t any convincing chemistry going on to draw me in and make me believe.  I’d have bought it, if there had been some sizzle, but this was a complete dud.

The set and costumes were great, along with the example of how hard it was to be who you wanted/needed to be in those days.

The Danish Girl was another disappointment.  However, somebody please give Eddie Redmayne another Oscar, immediately.  Forget voting, just order the damn thing and hand it to him already.  He is phenomenal and gifted.  He played a woman better than I live as a born woman, I really need to exude more feminism and wear red lipstick more often!  My complaint with The Danish Girl is the same as Carol, I didn’t buy the amorous connection.  Once Einer becomes a woman, the dynamic between her and Gerda is underdeveloped, moving into lapses where we don’t know what’s transpired in between or why the characters are feeling the way they are.  I was disappointed.

The actor that plays Hans in this movie is so attractive, why isn’t he famous?  He is HOT, HOT, habanero chili Hot!   My jaw dropped when he appeared on the screen.  I had a moment where I looked around the dark theater like, are you seeing this man?  Is he a real person?

Oh, and I don’t know if it was a set or a real place, but I want a house that looks like their Paris home in the movie!  The tapestry’s were, WOW.

I’m glad that more people will learn about Lily and the roads she paved, I don’t understand it, but it sure is brave.  And bravery in any woman, is always commendable in my book!

Once Han’s character is introduced, make sure you have an iced drink in your theater cup holder and maybe a handheld fan, because he is FIRE!!!! Haaa

Betty Page was a Schizophrenic and liked 50 Shades of Grey?

Well, I just didn’t know a damn thing about Betty Page. (I thought I did?)  I grew up seeing pictures of her on the wall of my uncle Joe’s garage and my dad had one of those pens that took all of her clothes off when you picked it up to write.  He kept it hidden in his tool box, but I would play with it when he would send me to the garage to get a pair of pliers or a screwdriver.  I didn’t know that she was the original “50 Shades of Grey” either?  I had no idea she made bondage photos until I saw this documentary.  Wow, for the time, that sure took some moxie?

She was also her class Salutatorian!

Have you seen this documentary?  I think the whole thing is on YouTube?  If not, you should give it a whirl.  First of all, she was ornery as hell and I love a women like that!  She was also a healthy looking woman with a normal body!

Her story was empowering and sad at the same time, anybody that has ever had a horrible landlord can understand her attacking one…lol  But having to spend 10 years institutionalized in a mental hospital?  I supposed it was also because of her nervous breakdown and the schizophrenia, but 10 years?  She should have lashed out at her father, that man was disgusting which you’ll learn about in the film.  Maybe a psychologist would say her father was the person she was lashing out at in a way when she attacked her landlord?…..

She doesn’t show herself on the film because she wanted to be remembered the way she was in her pictures, but you’ll hear her aged voice narrating the film.  RIP Betty Page.

This Old Thing?

Oh, no biggie…JUST MY KISS PEZ COLLECTION! Gaw ♥ I can’t decide where to put it.

A little tacky?

Yeah, o.k., but something this awesome needs to be where people can experience the joy…….maybe a little rotating glass shelf with a light?

I know what you’re thinking because my friend Natt asked the same thing:

“Can I hold it?”

“Of course you can, right after you wash your hands.”

Let me have my moment, the novelty will fade, but the love I feel right now is forever.

(Note: I’m a little bummed because Natt let me know shes moving four hours away today….it’ll be o.k. the Pez set can travel, I have a new “vacation location”, and I’m happy for her! “Are you using that napkin? I got something in my eye.”)

HaveHeart Magazine For Women

Have you heard of HaveHeart Magazine? I first saw it posted on a blog I follow earlier in the year and I’ve become hooked. It’s so refreshing to read a woman’s magazine that isn’t centered on superficial bullshit. Heather Niccoli the founder, chooses articles with real life perspectives and refuses to allow any photoshopping, period. The monthly contributing writers all seem to be chosen because they have a genuinely interesting take on things women experience and think about. I get the sense that no matter how nice the writers might seem in their bio’s, these are not the type of women you’d want to try taking a parking spot from. They all seem so strong, empowered, brave, witty, and unapologetic. It’s inspiring! In addition to that, they are all so different, HaveHeart really seems to do a great job representing all women.

I love to look at the art/pictures in the tiles as much as reading the articles. I don’t know who designs those tiles it may be Heather herself, but they pop and sparkle, are brightly colored, have a vintage vibe, and the best part is: they are always UNIQUE!

I haven’t been disappointed yet by HaveHeart Magazine, there is something worth reading every month! You can link to HaveHeart here: http://haveheartmagazine.com/

Buy Bazooka Gum You Might Get A Grill

I bought a package of Bazooka gum today. I haven’t seen that brand in ages and I was curious to see if they still came with comics inside? No comic, but it came with a grill! Talk about changing with the times. Bah ha haa Oh, and you know I tried it on, grills aren’t just for Madonna anymore……:D

The 90’s are back!

No, they aren’t, stop that shit. I am tired of magazines saying that 90’s styles are back. Look, I was there, I lived it, and rocked it. The 90’s aren’t back until you fully commit. Where is your perm? You want to talk about being a 90’s chick? You’ll need to perm the f(*& out of your hair. We rolled hard with crimped and permed hair, neon pants, nail, lips, and jelly shoes. When you commit to a perm and a can of AquaNet(do they make that anymore?) you can say whatever you want about the 90’s and your style. Meanwhile, a pair of acid wash jeans isn’t going to make any of us see you as anything other than a poser. Come on…..SHOW ME THAT PERM!!! And while you’re at it, tie in a lace headband ….or add a neon scrunchie! 😛 Haaaaaaaaaa
