Bram Stoker wrote “Dracula” 25 years after Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu wrote “Carmilla.” A short story about a female vampire who wants a girl named, Laura. This was in 1872! I always hear about Dracula (still one of the best vampire books I’ve ever read) but Carmilla came first and she is just as creepy, erie, gothic, and frightening as Dracula ever was! Since the Halloween season is upon us, you may want to scare yourself with this well-written classic, you can download it for free here: http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/10007
Once was enough for me, I can’t read scary books or watch frightening movies….I’m a wimp to the genre, but I become braver when it’s a classic! (I powered through for Stoker and Fanu!) And why haven’t the names, “Bram” and “Carmilla” made a comeback? Those are great names!
