Get off Lena Dunhams ass……No really, I mean her ass….

People are really slamming Lena Dunham, the creator of the HBO series “Girls” and recent golden globe winner….I’ve heard everything from assumptions that she has only become a famous writer because of her parents wealth and status as artist. Along with online comments declaring that she is ridiculously ugly and an exhibitionist that should be ashamed of her body and stop acting nude on Girls.  What I don’t understand, is the women who feign support for the empowerment of our gender, while ripping women apart when they accomplish something they are jealous of. (or don’t understand)  More to the point, I’ve noticed women attacking those who have a HEALTHY, confident, acceptance of their body when that body does not fit the normal visual standard.   I have a real problem with this, for starters this is Lena’s body, she is making art, and using her own body as her muse.  She is comfortable enough to lead with her intellect, as opposed to becoming encumbered by her physical imperfections.  I wish more women would rely on their witty intellect and less on rating their own body against an ideal.  What guts, what bravery!  This womans strength in terms of self acceptance should be lauded from the rooftops; not ripped apart by critics.  She is writing a raw show touching on the experiences of real women.  Do you think pages write themselves?  She is earning everything she’s being compensated for by HBO.  Rich, privileged, or not, experiences among women don’t vary that much. Lena is able to get it down in the form of a script.  Get off her ass, literally, get off her ass.  Howard Stern attacked her weight, Charlie Rose asked her if she was an exhibitionist because she writes her own nude scenes,(why shouldn’t she? Because she isn’t a Sharon Stone look-alike?) critics online say, her ass is horrible to look at, too large, too soft, pear-shaped body etc.  Seriously? Why hasn’t somebody told Howard Stern his head looks like stretched taffy and he needs to eat. He wouldn’t take that from anybody and neither should Lena.  I think people are so angered by her success because of that fact that she seems so normal.  She comes across like that awkward girl you knew in high school and has scenes that make you cringe because admittedly or not, you’ve probably been in a  similar situation at one time or another.  All I see is a fun, witty, creative, brave, strong, woman kicking some ass…..pun intended.

“I’m not that fat, Howard,” she said. “I don’t mean to take major issue with you  about this. I’m not super thin, but I’m thin for, like, Detroit.”
-Lena Dunham to Howard Stern

Interview Magazine article:

From a critic:  @krisco – A lumpy, selfish, loutish, unemployed, uninspired girl who dresses in clown outfits is constantly pursued by men and has lots of friends who love her? Realistic? Perhaps if you’re the daughter of rich, famous parents.
